In today’s wedding world, there are no definite lines for who pays for what. Traditionally, the bride’s family pays for the majority of the wedding. What people don’t notice is what the groom is responsible for paying. Below is a list of items the groom's side traditionally pays for!
  1. One of the most well-known duties of the groom and his family is to cover the Rehearsal Dinner costs. The rehearsal dinner can be a small gathering for the members of the wedding party or it can be an elaborate celebration for the majority of the wedding guests. It all depends on what the groom’s family is comfortable with paying for!
  2. While the bride’s family takes care of all the floral arrangements, it is the groom’s responsibility to take care of the bridal bouquet + boutonnieres.
  3. The honeymoon is their first vacation together as husband and wife, and it supposed to be a treat from the groom. Sometimes, the groom surprises his new wife with a honeymoon location, activities, hotels, etc.
  4. Another responsibility of the groom’s family is to cover the bar + alcohol costs. There are many different routes that can be taken with this. The groom’s family can decide if there is a bar tab or if it is an open bar. They can select which alcohol they want served at the wedding as well.
  5. Just like the boutonnieres, it is the groom’s job to take care of his friends. He is in charge of paying for his own outfit + the groomsmen’s outfits, if that fits within the budget.
  6. Last but probably most important, the marriage license + officiant fees/donation!
