tips and ideas for productive planning
A few years ago when we {and the rest of the world} discovered Pinterest, it was as if the planner gods had graced us with the Holy Grail of wedding planning. I mean, this was ground breaking, life changing, incredible stuff! Finding wedding planning inspiration became so easy and so fun. We still use Pinterest to help clients plan - we create boards for them, pin on ideas and things they might be in to, and use it as a tool at meetings to help us plan their weddings. But, what we find time and time again, is that there are a few problems with Pinterest... 1. Pinterest doesn't attach price tags: You see a bridal bouquet that you absolutely. positively. LOVE! That's fantastic! We take that pin to the florist and soon discover that the bouquet you just love soaks up half of your floral budget. No bueno. There is nothing worse than falling in love with a floral scheme, a tablescape, a gorgeous 7-tier wedding cake or fabulous decor elements that you simply cannot afford. We love the idea of pulling inspiration from Pinterest but, unless your wedding budget is unlimited, keep in mind that you might not be able to pull off what is seen on Pinterest. 2. Pinterest can make you change your mind: You have already selected your bridal gown, sent it to the seamstress for alterations then take a stroll through Pinterest and find a gown that you so wish you would have chosen. No bueno. If you are well established in your wedding planning, already have your ideas intact, and don't want to experience wedding planning remorse, stop. looking. at. Pinterest. Being indecisive in wedding planning is to be expected to some degree, but with Pinterest around, we tend to see this much more than before. Once you find what you love {gown, cakes, decor elements, etc.} and have set things in motion with your vendors, stick with it! 3. Pinterest makes things look easy: The DIY idea you found on Pinterest looks super cool and, although you're no Martha Stewart, you can swing it! Yeah, until you get right down in the middle of your project, invested time and money to make something come to life and it becomes much more difficult than the photos made it appear. No bueno. Taking on small wedding planning DIY projects is great to save money where you can, but don't bite off more than you can chew just because you think it looks easy. Wedding DIY projects are fun and we love the personalization they bring to the event, but remember that many Pinterest projects have teams behind them, not just one bride trying to pull the project together. With all this said, we really do LOVE Pinterest! Really, we do! And we encourage its use in wedding planning. Really, we do! It is a fantastic tool with tons of great ideas and for finding inspiration but we want you to use it being aware of the few Pinterest problems....
