There's no secret that family style seating is a favorite around here. The clean, elongated lines that family style seating creates is so different than the look you get with standard round tables. Not to say that there isn't a time and place for round tables, because there absolutely is, but when the opportunity arrises to go family style, we love it! This Amish Barn at Edge wedding for Sarah + Walsh is a perfect example of when family style is the way to go... Just look at how it mimics the woodwork up top! Totally makes sense to go long rather than round in this case! Guests naturally popped in and out of seats to visit with family + friends rather than staying in one place like we see guests do more often when there are round tables at receptions. The increased movement of guests is something I notice every time one of our receptions is set for family style seating. Photos via Dustin Finkelstein Photography When Jessica+Jon were planning their May wedding at Miramont Country Club, Jessica thought outside the box {or ballroom, as it were} and planned the very first reception on the terrace there at Miramont! She envisioned family style seating from one end of the terrace to the other and the result was gorgeous!
When we plan/coordinate weddings at Rock Lake Ranch, we often see clients naturally go to a round table reception arrangement. The space is 40X60 in and under the pavilion at Rock Lake so round tables work very well in the square-ish space. However, family style can work great in the space, too! For Allison+Matt's December wedding at The Ranch, we did a really cool mix of family style + round tables that created a really interesting and creative look in the space! All wedding receptions are different and table arrangement is dependent on the space you're working with and, of course, personal preference. It is great to consider what style of table will flow best in the space, what tables you have available to you as part of your rental with the reception venue and what you envision for your reception! Family style isn't for every couple but when we get the opportunity to put a family style layout into action, we love it! Photos via Ryan Price Photography
