Tuesday Tip: Ladies on the Left!

One of the jobs of your planner/coordinator is getting everyone lined up for the processional at rehearsal and then ensuring their correct order on wedding day! A quick tip to remember is that in traditional, Christian weddings {and in life really} ladies are on the left of their escort.*

*A little history lesson: back in the day, ladies were to the left of their beau so that guys could easily access swords, guns or whatever they needed for protection using their right hand. Keeping their lady on their left arm, keeps the right arm free to protect themselves.  We carry that crazy little tradition on today as proper etiquette for weddings and formal events.

So when it's time to head down that aisle, remember, "ladies on the left!"  All the ladies in the processional go down to the left of their escort.  The bride goes down to the left of her father or whomever is escorting her down the aisle and stands to the left of her groom at the alter.

This is also true when it is time to make your seating arrangements for the head table.  The bride's place setting should be to the left of the groom's, with the best man seated to her left and the maid-of-honor-seated to the right of the groom.
